This is a beautifully simple Antique Silver Caping / C
haping
/ Modesty Plate / Shield from either Malaysia or Indonesia.
This piece
dates from the late 1800's to early 1900's.  These heart shaped shields were worn by Babies / Children of Muslim families to cover their genitals.  The caping was suspended from a Chain that would have been worn around the child's waist.  This item was purchased in the early 1970's from a local antique dealer in Penang, Malaysia that sold primarily Peranakan / Nyonya Items.
This Caping / Chaping
has not been polished and retain it's original patina.  Applying silver polish would drastically change the appearance of the item if you prefer a shinier / newer looking piece.
