Antique SAWANKHALOK Thailand Earthenware Clay Jar Thai JarletHere is an early antique artifact from Thailand - a small jarlet with floral scrolls and a meander pattern, above a stylized lotus bloom base
Decorated with a pressure-print molding technique onto the ceramic before firing, one of the characteristic types of Sawankhalok Ware and one of the earliest such techniques
Unglazed tan-color earthenware, small glazed bands for ornamentation, in dark brown
Globular form
Sawankhalok, Northern Thailand, possibly circa 1500's. Selling it as "in the style of" as we are not experts in this field. It was purchased by consignor's family from a major auction house and attributed to the period
The historical province of Sawankhalok is best known for it's fine quality ceramics that flourished during the 14th-16th centuries, starting from the beginning of the Sukhotai Period (1238-1351) throughout the end of the Si Ayutthaya Kingdom (1351-1767)
