Here is a very UNUSUAL and OBSCURE 1936 Dedham, Massachusetts (MA or Mass.) license plate or tag TOPPER, or city strip, or booster plate celebrating the community's 300th year.
Seldom seen type from the Bay State.  There aren't that many communities in North America that have been incorporated under modern law for 300 years or more.  But Dedham, Massachusetts, is so old that it was able to celebrate its tercentenary in 1936, when this attractive plate was issued.  These toppers did literally what their name implies -- they sat on top of or topped the license plate displayed for that year.  It was not uncommon for communities to issue their own unique strips like this one, nor for them to tout a particular attraction or event.  But what is unusual with this is example is the 300 year celebration as stated above -- it's quite a unique piece and an important piece for any collectors of Mass. plates.
Condition is as shown in the images -- this appears to be original paint.  There is some light surface rust primarily around some of the bolt holes and at a few spots on the edges, as well as in a few different and isolated places on the back.  The white background paint is strong, however, and may improve with proper cleaning.  The forest green border is vibrant, and again may show even better if cleaned.  The red lettering with the community name and years is also bold and stable.  The plate may have a subtle bend as well, so it may not lie absolutely flat.
Looks and displays nicely despite its age.  Perfect for a collection.  Difficult plate to acquire.
This plate was issued for single-year use in 1936 making it 85 years old.
