    Description

This is a pair of unusual Antique Peranakan / Straits Chinese Repoussed Tin Curtain Hooks from Penang, Malaysia.  These clearly decorative hooks were purchased in the early 1970's by my father when he owned an Antique Shop on Batu Ferringhi Beach in Penang.  He only bought from reputable dealers who primarily sourced their collections from Chinese families who lived on the island.  I have not run into
    any
items of this type during my visits to Penang and Malacca.  The hooks are very lightweight and the front plaques show amazing detail of birds, bees & flowers.  There is a small enclosed circular loop on the top with an open hook on the bottom.  The back of the plaques are clearly not as attractive as the front so it appears they were not meant to be displayed backwards (See Picture #11 & #12).   I estimate the hooks most likely date from the early 1920's.
Please review pictures thoroughly prior to purchase.  The hooks have not been polished and their appearance would change drastically if you polished them assuming you prefer a shiny / newer looking set of hooks.
Single Hook Dimensions: 1 1/8 inch in Width and 11 inches in Length.  Weight: 1.6 ounces (both Hooks weigh 3.2 ounces)
