    Quality 18th Century Bronze Mythical Chinthe Lion Opium Weight 312g
    This is an antique Burmese opium weight with years of patina. It is in the form of a Chinthe beast, a mythical lion revered in Burma often used as guardians of temples.  The ones I saw in Burma were 2 1/2 stories high, usually crafted from cement.  It was well worth the trip (s). I purchased this weight in Burma on one of my trips there. I also have five more of varying sizes I will be listing together in another auction. These opium weights were used throughout South-East Asia to weigh many things such as gold, silver, spices, jewelry, opium etc. The size is 2 5/8" tall and weighs 312g.  It has an octangonal base.
