I've saved my son's old pal for all these years.  I saved the box as well.  I put batteries in - included with the sale by the way - and he started talking to me.  I went through all the commands.  They all work !  He burps, farts, and says a bunch of phrases.  You can talk to him as well.  I tried the pitching aspect.  I said "pitch!" and he did.  There is one original ball included along with the bat, his hat, working flashlight, manual, funnel and backpack.  The lights light up in his head when he speaks.
The only issue is his eyes and mouth no longer move.  Perhaps they can be fixed by a toy repair expert?  There are some plastic pieces rolling around in his head.  Maybe they can be reattached?  I'm not sure that's the problem.  But overall he's in great shape!
